The Festival will be held for a week from October 23-29th 2017 at Publika. Currently, KLEFF has just launched its 2017 film submission platform.

Local and international film makers are encouraged to submit their environmental stories to the Festival’s film competition where eight award categories will be up for grabs from Best Film to Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best PSA to Special Jury Award. The annual festival aims to promote and mobilize environmental actions among Malaysians through a multi-faceted cinematic experience.

This year’s theme for the film competition is “Call for Action”. This year the festival is looking for films of all genres and lengths that promote positive environmental action in communities, businesses and governments.

Films submitted will be selected by a jury committee based on the environmental content, and the technical aspects of film making such as cinematography, editing, sound and script. The panel of judges will consider relevant sustainability narratives, methods of storytelling, technical finesse, and other attributes of filmmaking in the judging process.

The call for entries will close on 30 June, 2017 and finalists will be announced in early August. Winners will be presented at an awards ceremony. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films online at www.filmfreeway.com/festival/KLEFF (international) or www.kleff.my (Malaysian).

Winning and finalist films will be subsequently showcased at the Festival’s screening theatre, the Black Box.  Award cash and gift prizes with a value of up to RM5000 will be awarded to winning filmmakers in the respective categories.
