Film Submission

Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival is conceptualized and organized by Ecoknights, a not for profit environmental organization which organizes the festival every year to host a wide array of programs that aspires to build a nation of ecologically conscious businesses, individuals, and communities through film-screenings, workshops, Green Market, forums etc.

Over the years, KLEFF has been using the art of storytelling through films to reach out to people about environmental issues. These films not only confront us with the harsh reality of environmental degradation but also gives us hopes of restoration to inspire people towards sustainable solutions. It is a platform for both local and international filmmakers to come together year after year to share unique stories through their artistic expressions and creativity of filmmaking.

Clause 1: Thematic

Our theme this year is Forest, Water and Climate Change. At least one of the elements of the theme has to be present in the film for it to be considered as a relevant submission. However, the theme should not restrict imagination and therefore, overlapping themes will also be accepted. Our mission is to celebrate the power of film to inspire, educate, and motivate audiences on environmental topics. Films most likely to be selected will fit with our mission.

We do not limit the films chosen to ones that, to us, have the right answers. It is more important that the films are thought-provoking and compelling. This is an open forum designed to inspire awareness and action on a myriad of worldwide environmental topics. The quality of the film production will also be considered and weighed. All genres, including documentaries, narratives, shorts, children’s films, and experimental films are all welcome and will be given equal consideration.

“Palm fruit” also known as “buah sawit“ in Malay is and a source of livelihood for many farmers and largely exported to many countries across the globe. Did you know that palm oil is infused into a large range of our daily products from soaps, to cooking oil to cosmetics…and even chocolates to name a few?

Before you hop on to your browsers to research…Did you also know that palm fruits can be harvested sustainably? How do you know which products contain sustainably produced palm oil? Fret not! All you need to do is lookout for the RSPO trademark before purchasing your products

“i-sawit therefore I got it!” is really what the theme of this competition emulates.

This year Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) is partnering with the Sustainable Roundtable on Palm Oil (RSPO) to open a new door for film makers to win the Special Sustainable Roundtable on Palm Oil (RSPO) Award.

RSPO is a not-for-profit organization that aims to transform the market to make sustainable palm oil the norm through development and implementation of the Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) global standards for sustainable palm oil.

This special film award by RSPO is called Responsible Shopping: i Saw-it and aims to encourage film makers to submit films that raise awareness and encourage the use of products that contain certified sustainable palm oil. We hope some of the films highlight how sustainable methods can become the solution for a country like Malaysia, where so much of the economy and livelihoods are depended on the palm industry. Check out the video by RSPO to know more at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lf-hvRztik .

This year Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) is partnering with the River of Life (ROL) Rediscover Reconnect to open a new door for film makers to win the Special River of Life (ROL) Award.

ROL is a public outreach program that aims to foster partnerships and improve attitudes and behaviors to reduce pollution in the Klang River.

The Special River of Life (ROL) Award aims at increasing awareness, participation and empowerment among city dwellers on river awareness, conservation and protection in Malaysia.

For this award, we are looking forward to films that put the spotlight on our rivers and everything they are a part of, such as the communities and the ecosystem. They can be films that tell the tale of the bond humanity and nature have shared with rivers since the beginning of time to invigorate the love we once had for our rivers or they can be a reality check of how human activities are the cause for their destruction.
