As we usher towards the festival in October, a lot of things went down in the month of July. We closed our film submissions and received a total of 179 films from 38 countries all over the world. After an intense amount of evaluations, we have accepted 100 films to be screened, and out of that 31 are from Malaysia. It is truly an honour to be able to lead this important movement all this while.
From the perspective of someone who has been involved (and watch most of the films) for 11 years, I have to say that in general (all submissions) there are some really good ones down to those that doesn't hit the spot. Out of the selected films, there are some really outstanding films and the qualities are getting better especially films coming from South East Asia, whereby the issues are close to us. I personally love most of the selected films and it was really tough to decide even the finalists of each categories and special awards. In terms of the whole selections, I think we have achieved our theme this year (Forest, Water & Climate Change) and we are really proud to be screening some of the best stories on various pressing issues, initiatives, leaders and people from around the world, collectively working towards the same goal for a better future of our Earth.
I must thank all our other juries: Mr. Mano Maniam, Dr. Reuben Clements and Mr. Azuan Muda for taking their invaluable support, it must have been a wonderful time for us all to view these films.
Apart from the film section, we have shortlisted 10 finalists for the poster competition, after receiving over 100 submissions. All the finalist’s artworks are being shared on KLEFF Facebook for you to view. We are really pleased and impressed with their creativity, talent and message on the poster.
We are on the fifth gear now, and the team is on full force. Wish us all the best so that we can bring you the best experience of KLEFF with the most interesting activities and contents. Till then, see you again next month.
Yours Fabulously, FABS

KLEFF 2018 ANNOUNCES THE FILM SCREENING SCHEDULE
Time to mark your calendar for some good films from around the world! Registration and puchase for the film screening tickets will start in Spetember. We would love to see you all there!
Here is what the judges of the competition have got to say:
“The KLEFF poster competition is the first attempt to reach out to the young talented and creative people to illustrate their messages and passion on the environment, or on sustainability. I hope the competition provides a creative outlet for Malaysians. “ - Yasmin Rasyid (President and Founder of EcoKnights)
“Contrary to popular belief, causes do not inspire action through facts and figures. An action is only inspired when information is presented in the right way to the right audience. This is the true obstacle for all causes, especially one as complex and extensive as climate change. How do we, as an NGO, make people better understand the issues ahead of us?
That is why it was heartwarming to see so many young, talented artists come together to help design for a more sustainable future. The creativity put on display was impressive and completely upended the notion that it isn’t possible to make environmentally conscious collateral without the tired templates we are all used to seeing.
When these artists pushed themselves to portray the facts about environmental sustainability in novel ways, they created pieces of art that not only informed its viewers but also inspired more of them to action. That is what is critical, for at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how much somebody knows about sustainability, it is what they do that counts.” - Luqman Avicenna (EcoKnights Junior Visual Designer)
Starting from 2nd of August, one finalist poster will be posted on the KLEFF Facebook page every Monday and Thursday until 3rd of September when the final grand prize winner will be announced. Stay tune to our Facebook page to view these posters in more details!
